Notarizations & Documents

From time to time, individuals may be required to sign documents in the presence of a Notary Public or Commissioner for Oaths. These documents may be for use in British Columbia, elsewhere in Canada or foreign countries. Please contact our office for further information.

A notarized copy is a photocopy of an original document that has been certified by a notary public to be a true and accurate copy of the original document. A notarized copy is sometimes referred to as a certified true copy. The notary public will sign the document and emboss his seal on it. The certification of a document acts as an assurance that the photocopy is a true and accurate copy of the original. This is useful where it is impractical to provide or show the original document.

The Canadian Government strongly recommends that children traveling abroad carry a Travel Consent Letter from every person with the legal right to make major decisions on their behalf, if that person is not accompanying the children on the trip. Children, traveling alone, with groups, or with only one of their custodial parents/guardians should travel with a consent letter. A notary can prepare this letter for you or can notarize a letter you prepare yourself. Phone our office for further information.
